SA Schools: Draw, Heads Races other aspects

2015/02/20 2:09:14 PM

1.      In explaining the rules below we did not anticipate that schools would do changes between 19th and 23rd, (if they do it will create havoc for those doing the draw and seedings as while they are busy….  schools will be doing changes!!)  But the rule is clear : Name changes/scratches are allowed for Opens and u16’s   within the normal 50% allowance up until the draw is published on Monday. Please bear in mind the confusion that this will create for those spending their weekend sorting out seedings and draw. U15 and u14 arenot affected by rule 2.11.

a.    2.10.Entries close at 17:00 on 19 February 2015. The preliminary draw will bepublished on 23 February and remain open for name-changes and scratchings andlate entries (except in single sculls) until 17:00 on 26 February

b.   2.11.No crew changes or scratches in Openand U16 events may be made after the publication of the first (preliminary)draw (except for medical reasons), If a rower withdraws from an event, evenwith a medical certificate he/she will forfeit all seats in the regatta.

2.     We have had a practical issue with the rule which stipulates Heads races for more than 3 heats, the officials stopwatches can only cater for 99 splits so we cannot record more than 99 boats, the biggest heads race at the moment is 60 boats, but if we do heads races for more than 3 heats we will run out of splits on the stopwatches due to the close proximity of events. So this is not an option.   Clive and Gaynor have thankfully solved this problem by only having heads races in events with more than 5 heats. That is what will have to happen.

3.     The structure of the regatta will depend on entries and the like, so schools should not anticipate that all the heads races will take place at the beginning of the day.
